On Friday 24th October 2014 Dave Robertson became the first person to complete the iconic NZ Coastal Classic yacht race on a kite. The 119 Nautical Mile (220km) is run annually starting in the Auckland Harbour and finishing at Russell in the Bay of Islands.
The Coastal Classic is a 119nm drag race from Devonport Wharf in Auckland to Russell in the Bay of Islands and is one of the biggest coastal yacht races in the world. It is organized by the New Zealand Multihull Yacht Club, open to any boats, provided they can reach certain safety criteria.
2014 saw a record breaking year for the event not only with Robertson’s kite attempt, but also with an entry of over 150 different sailing craft.
