It’s been a flying start to the KTA Thailand Christmas Race Special with the Nils Stolzechner race clinic already in the bag. Wind conditions played ball pretty much throughout the 3 day clinic, not super strong but good enough allowed Nils to cover the full programme and give all the riders a good mix of race theory and water time.
The riders on the course consisted of both TT and Formula racers and the training was planned to cover both styles of riding in this new era of ISAF recognition. The KTA Thailand leads the way in fact for the newly recognised TT Class as the first international event since the class was fully approved and will be awarding the first of the new World ranking points for its competitors.
Day 1 then saw Nils taking the group through equipment choice and tuning, race tactics, rules and reading the conditions for the best race lines.
Day 2 took the group out to the water at Chalong Bay with everyone racing on TT boards with Nils cruising around on his Formula board offering coaching tips and creating racing challenges. The focus began with making a good start and the port or starboard advantages or disadvantages. Training then moved to good mark rounding technique and choosing those all-important lay-lines.
The final day of the clinic then moved its focus to personal riding technique and how to improve your speed in all riding directions. Again Nils would be buzzing around the training area to offer individual coaching input to each of the riders and to give them challenges to deal with.
Although the wind did in the end unfortunately drop out earlier than hoped for everyone agreed it had been an awesome course with the ideal mix of background knowledge and hands on technique training. So all that remains to be seen is how well everyone will put their new found skills in action over the coming week at the KTA Thailand Christmas Race Special.
Next chance to get onto a KTA Race Clinic with Nils will be just before the KTA Indonesia on Bintan Island next month, course details to be released soon so keep a watch on the Indonesia event page.
