The KTA Kite Kids is our exciting new training initiative to introduce children safely into the sport of kiteboarding and we are pleased to announce that following its now many successful classes in a wide range of countries that the project is set to continue
The KTA has in the past introduced a number of different coaching and training opportunities such as the pre-event pro-rider led clinics for competitors, freestyle and race coaching weekends to improve rider skills, the KTA Race Centre Project for you all to get access to race board training and of course our very successful KB4Girls courses with Kristin Boese to inspire more women to compete. The KTA Kite Kids is perhaps our most important training endeavor to date and it’s been a super rewarding experience to work the real grassroots of any sport, the kids.
To bring about the KTA Kite Kids we teaming up with one of the KTA’s most successful Champions Kathrin Borgwardt who holds four KTA titles and is the current undefeated women’s KTA Tour Course Racing Champion. Together with Kathrin the KTA has been putting something back into each location and country that the tour visits by offering its local kids the opportunity to join a KTA Kite Kids class and take those first steps towards perhaps becoming a future kiteboarding Champion.
KTA Kite Kids classes introduce local children to kiteboarding by teaching them the fundamental skills through power kite flying, while at the same time getting them to understand the importance of safety while they are having fun. Having many years of experience and skill as qualified instructor Kathrin will bringing her teaching skill and well as her competition background to the KTA Kite Kids project which itself is based on kids camps and courses Kathrin has successfully been running over in Europe. This is also the progression route for the kids within the KTA Kite Kids project with opportunities being created for further training to lead the children onto the water to learn the full kiteboarding skills and to hopefully as we saw for the first time at the KTA Philippines round of the 12/13 Asia Tour compete for themselves in competition.
Our aim is to run KTA Kite Kids classes before each round of the KTA Asia Tour with support from local instructors and kiters to ensure lots of help is on hand for the kids to get the max out of their kiting session. Our hope and plan then is that the kiting for kids will then continue after the KTA has left with the foundation of a local kids kiting club that can continue to support this grassroots kite skills development.Check out the KTA Kite Kids in Action
Please note that to KTA Kite Kids does not need to be held with a competition we are very happy to run classes independently.
If you are interested in bringing the KTA Kite Kids project to your location either as a two-day power kite introduction course or as a full KTA Kite Kids camp then please contact us, we will be happy to help.
