There are 5 main disciplines that count towards the Kiteboarding World Championship Title: Wave, Freestyle, Course Racing, Slalom and Speed. urthermore, each category has some more side-disciplines that are used to add extra value to any event. Dependant on the conditions at the venue in question, it is likely that at least one, if not more, of the disciplines will provide a suitable exhibition to ensure a great show at each event.
Expression The Expression category includes wave riding, freestlye, high jump and hang time. The event results are judged on overall impression rather than finishing first. and for sure this is the biggest show on the beach.
Racing The Racing category includes course racing, downwind racing, superX and long distance. Tactical understanding and board speed is the key to success. With large fleets of up to 100 competitors on the water, blasting together over the starting line, this is for sure a very appealing discipline.
With Offshore Speed Course, Alpha Courses and Speedcrossings, the Speed category is definately for the pure adrenaline lover. With boardspeeds of almost 100 km/h ( more than 50 knots) it is more a question of self confidence to make it to the finish. Spectaculare crashes are the result of sailing almost every time above the physical limits of sailing. |
