Mens Freestyle run into semi finals at PKRA Germany

Written by Editor on . Posted in News

Today was much like the past couple of days here in St. Peter-Ording, Germany. The weather is absolutely fantastic! You could not ask for better conditions, the sun was out scorching the skin of hundreds of spectators, vacationers and locals out on the beach. Temperatures averaged 33 degrees Celsius, which is a record high for St. Peter-Ording and the wind averaged 15 knots most of the late morning and early afternoon.

Race director Olaf Van Tol had a difficult decision to make in regards to which discipline he would run first today. Often you will see Van Tol running around the competition area like a chicken with his head cut off, but he is always on top of his game making sure that everyone and everything is in its place.

The forecast predicted that the wind would gradually decrease as the day progressed, therefore Van Tol decided to run the race discipline first, and wait for the wind to pick up a notch or two before he ships the freestylers out on the water.

Finishing first in the men’s race division is Bruno Sroka (Cabrinha, FRA) followed by Abel Lago (RRD, ESP) and Sky Solbach (North, USA) in third. In the women’s race division, North rider Steph Bridge (North, GBR) finished first while French rider Caroline Adrien (Cabrinha, FRA) took on second place and Brazilian rider Nayara Nicarinoo (Best, BRA) landed in third.

There was a short intermission after the race in order to prepare the box for the freestyle discipline. The rerun of women’s heat # 3A Kari Schibevaag (Ozone, NOR) against Angela Peral (North, ESP) took place. Peral eliminated Schibevaag as well as Sofia Lennartsson (Ozone, SWE) earning her a spot in the semi finals against Gisela Pulido (Airush, ESP). Pulido defeated Peral in the semi final round. Bruna Kajiya eliminated Asia Litwin (Nobile, POL) in a very close heat as well as Karolina Winkowska (Slingshot, POL) in the semi final, which leads her to the final against Spanish rider Gisela Pulido (Airush, ESP). Winkowska will go on to the losers final against Angela Peral (North, ESP).

In the men’s freestyle single eliminations, Andy Yates (Slingshot, AUS) defeated all competitors that he battled against such as Forest Bakker (Flexifoil, FRA), and Alberto Rondina (Cabrinha, ITA) landing him into the semi finals against Dominican rider Ariel Corniel (Ozone, DOM). Corniel was certainly on top of his game today pulling all kinds of tricks up his sleeve. Corniel defeated Michael Schithofer (JN Kites, AUT) and well as Youri Zoon (Slingshot, NED) in a 3-0 judges decision earning him a spot in the semi finals against Yates. Corniel is certainly on the fast track to the top of the podium. Sebastien Garat (RRD, FRA) defeated German rider Mario Rodwald (North, GER) but was later eliminated by Alex Pastor (Airush, ESP). Pastor moves on to the semi final against Kevin Langeree (Naish, NED) who defeated Christopher Tach (Liquid Force, BEL) as well as Reno Romeu (North, BRA) earning him a spot in the semi finals against Pastor.

The semi finals began as the wind conditions began to deteriorate. More than 3 minutes was on the clock when race director Van Tol announced the abandonment of the semi final heat. Van Tol stated, “These boys deserve better wind conditions than this.”

All competitors were released early for the day due to the lack of wind.

Tomorrow’s mandatory skippers meeting is scheduled for 10:00am
