Doubles commence in Essaouira

Written by Editor on . Posted in News

The double eliminations got underway on time this morning under grey skies, and gusty winds. The first heat of the day was between Moroccan riders Yassine Bouceta and Mustapha Habachi. Bouceta was disqualified due to a line entanglement with his opponent. Habachi moves on to the next round of heats against Serbian rider Boris Judin (Nobile, SER). Judin defeated Habachi in a 3-0-judge decision.

Dominican rider Ariel Corniel (Ozone, DOM) was on top of his game today, eliminating Judin but was then defeated by Australian rider Andy Yates (Slingshot, AUS).

The wind was extremely gusty in the last two heats of the day. Riders were not able to perform as well as they normally do. Sebastian Garat (RRD, FRA) had a difficult time landing some technical moves due to the sudden onset of gusts during his maneuvers against Tom Hebert (Airush, NCL). Hebert eliminated Garat in a very close heat with a better overall execution of tricks.

In the women’s double elimination, Jalou Langeree (Naish, NED) defeated all opponents she battled against. Langeree defeated Aya Oshima (Cabrinha, JPN) and Kari Schibevaag (Ozone, NOR) which moves her up to compete for the 6th place position against Ania Grzelinska (North, POL). Grzelinska moved quickly up the ladder against her contender Celine Rodenas (Best, FRA) whom did not start today due to a knee injury that occurred yesterday during her heat against Langeree.
Angela Peral (North, ESP) defeated Austrian rider Laila Puehringer (JN Kites, AUT) due to more technical moves, however was eliminated by Grzelinska in the final women’s heat of the day.

The wave discipline is set to commence tomorrow morning and will run throughout the full day if the surf conditions permit.

The men’s and women’s double eliminations will wrap up on Sunday, the final day of competition.

The Essaouira Kiteboard World Cup 2010 is sponsored in part by L’Association Essaouira Mogador, Province d’Essaouira, L’Association Marocaine de Kitsurf, kitemorocco.com, ONMT, Sprite SAEMOG and the Atlas Hotel Essaouira.
