No wind at day one of KPWT Wave Masters Santa Cruz

Written by Editor on . Posted in News

Last night’s opening ceremony will be remembered for many years to come!
There was a selection of bars serving delicious cocktails and local beers, a fireworks display that engulfed the sky at midnight and an international band, Groundation who set the tone for this Grand Slam event.

A skippers meeting was held at 09h00 and again at 14h00 where the lycras, t-shirts and stickers were presented to those competing. The wind had not quite picked up to competition standard so the riders were asked to spend the rest of the afternoon on the beach and a decision would be made again at 17h00.
There was enough of offer for the riders to keep them entertained and relaxed. The Rip Curl Surf Pro National competition had started and that kept most of the wave riders glued to the sea. There is a pool for those who need to cool down, a massage table for those needing a rub down and there is always the opportunity to get in the water and enjoy the waves.

This evening the sponsors and local organizers have arranged a party for the riders and KPWT team. All are excited at the idea of a good meal and free beer at the end of a hot day. The concert tonight will host two renowned international bands, Pepper and Soldiers of Jah army!
The day was called off at 17h00 and a skippers meeting will be held at 10h00 tomorrow. Lets hope the wind picks up and conditions are better to start off the Wave Masters competition.
