Focus on... the World Ranking

The current world ranking is published further down the website, and the full rankings will be available soon in the rankings section.

Read here about how these rankings are set up, and how they will be continued once the event results roll in...

The current world ranking, or better said "virtual world ranking" is our approach to reflect competition kiteboarding results from last season, and to transform them into a fair ranking in 2009.

For this "virtual" ranking we took the overall ranking position of each rider in the KPWT and the PKRA rankings in each discipline, and scored them as follows:

- points for four freestlye super grand slams (factor 9) from both KPWT and PKRA rankings

- points for four racing grand slams (factor 4)

- points for two wave grand slams (factor 4)

- points for one speed grand slam (factor 4)

Due to the points model this resulted in the rankings for each discipline, and an overall ranking.

How is this overall ranking calculated ? The four main disciplines score, with the points that every rider has achieved: freestyle (better result from KPWT or PKRA), Wave Riding, Racing (better result from Course Racing or Downwind Racing), and Speed.

Once the event season begins, the "real" results are added to the list, and the rankings start to "live". As the current virtual results from last season shall only reflect the current standing (e.g. for seedings), these points are completely deleted on 31.07.2009, and only the results from this season count. From then on, after each event the rankings will be re-calculated (based on the events from the last 12 months), reflecting the current situation in the kiteboarding competition world.

The riders on top of the ranking on the 31st of December (actually, after the last major event of the season) win -  and are crownded world champions except when the world titles have been determined in one-off events like in racing and speed.

A final note: we have compiled the data from the various sources as accurate as possible, but we are not always 100% sure about the speeling of your names, and we do not know your actual sponsors. Please feel free to contact us and correct speelings as well as let us know your sponsors !
