Written by Editor on . Posted in News

Maxime Nocher (FRA, North) and Steph Bridge (GBR, North) have won the 2014 Formula Kite World Titles.

On the final day of competition in Burc Beach, Istanbul/Turkey, 4 medal races were run in both mens and womens fleets, in perfect conditions and winds averaging 12-15 knots.

Oliver Bridge (GBR, North) was on fire today after yesterdays equipmen upset, winning all 4 medal races and earning himself the bronze medal in this years world championships, while Nocher had a commanding 14 point lead after the opening series and played it safe, staying out of trouble and finishing 5-3-5-7 to stay 3 points ahead of Silver Medallist Riccardo Leccese (ITA, ML/Ozone) who barely defended a 1 point lead over Bridge with a 3-2-2-2 score today. In the womens fleet, Bridge won 3 out of 4 medal races, and extended her 3 point lead after the opening series. Last years world champion Erika Heineken (USA, ML/Ozone) dropped her kite in race 3 and couldnt finish the race, and with that 11 points on the scoreboard dropped down to third place. 17 year old Elena Kalinina (RUS, TMV/Elf) scored a solid 3-3-2-2 getting her up into second place.

2014 Formula Kite World Championships Day 4

Written by Editor on . Posted in News

Day 4 of the 2014 Formula Kite World Championships saw drama for Oliver Bridge (GBR, North), when an error in equipment selection dropped him from the top of the leaderboard to 4th place.

In light winds, only two races for the gold fleet were completed and Bridge had to suffer a DNS in the last race of the day which leaves him with 27 points that he cant discard. Maxime Nocher (FRA, North) scored a solid 2-1 to sit in first place now before the Medal series. With his domination in the light winds of the Final series he is 14 points ahead of the second placed Riccardo Leccese (ITA, ML/Ozone) and Blazej Ozog (POL, North) another point behind.

In the womens fleet, Elena Kalinina (RUS, TMV/Elf) showed her dominance in light wind another time, and is now in third overall, only 0.3 points behind Erika Heineken (USA, ML/Ozone) who only scored 3-3-4 in the light wind races of the last two days.

Steph Bridge (GBR, North) is still on top of the womens fleet with 4 points ahead of Heineken.

Tomorrows medal race series will see the top 10 men and women competing on a shorter course for four non-discardable races. With only 4 points between the top three in the womens fleet, and 7 points between places 2 to 6 in the mens fleet, the battle for the podium spots is still wide open. Nocher is the only one sitting in a comfortable lead, but 14 points with a total of 40 up for grabs still does not allow for any error.

THE FULL PRESS RELEASE AFTER MEDAL RACES WILL FOLLOW SHORTLY
