Brands are invited to register kites, boards and hydrofoils for the new Formula Kite class

Written by Editor on . Posted in News

FKAfter the decision of the last Annual General Meeting to evolve the Formula Kite class from 70cm raceboards into a foiling class, brands are now invited to register equipment, especially hydrofoils to be used in the upcoming continental and world championships.

While for kites (and 70cm boards) the same registration criteria as in the past apply (registration deadline: October 2016), hydrofoils will become eligible for competition immediately after registration (for already existing models) and new models have only a 4 week waiting period to ensure that the hydrofoils are available to everyone.

The Formula Kite class sets a strong focus on publically available equipment and does not allow prototypes, neither for kites, boards nor hydrofoils.

The next events will be the European Championships in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy from 16 to 22 of May, and the World Championships in Weifang, China, from 9 to 15 of September.

The new Formula Kite class rules (foiling registered production equipment) will also be used in the Sailing World Cups in Weymouth and Melbourne, and the Sailing World Cup Final (date and location TBC).

Interested brands please contact the IKA office for more details on registration.

KRU and IKA agree on a joint future for professional kiteboarding and the Kiteboarding World Championships

Written by Editor on . Posted in News

IKA world championshipsAfter negotiations between KRU and IKA earlier this week, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed yesterday to ensure a bright future for professional kiteboarding and the disciplines of Freestyle, Big Air, Wave and Slalom.

The talks between KRU and IKA also involved the organizers of the upcoming events in El Gouna, Leucate, Dakhla, Fuerteventura and Fehmarn, so that there is a joint understanding of the cooperation between the riders union representing the world’s best riders and the sanctioning authority for the only official World Sailing recognized Kiteboarding World Championships.

KRU is fully satisfied that the commercial interests of the riders are protected and can be marketed to grow. IKA has ensured that the contest management and judging is completely independent from outside influence and conflict of interest, and will also ensure contest management and competition formats to the world’s highest standards through World Sailing procedures and officials.

Both KRU and IKA invite all riders to attend the upcoming event in El Gouna, Egypt, starting on March 20 with registration.

The registration link for the El Gouna event can be found here:  http://internationalkiteboarding.org/index.php/events/freestyle/39-kwc-round-1-el-gouna-grand-slam

KiteFoil GoldCup will crown the 2016 KiteFoil World Champion

Written by Editor on . Posted in News

18938145393 8ea4c56b62 oThe 2016 IKA KiteFoil GoldCup will again gather the worlds best riders on Hydrofoil Kiteboard, and this year it is all about the World Championship Titles !

The 2016 tour will feature three events in exciting locations: Hang Loose Beach in Gizzeria, Italy has already proven in the 2015 season to be a perfect location for kiteracing. Not only the climate in the south of Italy is hot but also the parties during the annual "Aloha Party Week".

A new country on the world map is Korea - Boryeong offers wide sandy beaches only 2 hours from the Capital, and an unique combination of east Asian lifestyle and fantastic conditions.

The final will be held in The Pearl, Qatar. The location is well known from the 2014 Formula Kite Asian Championships, and this time the accomodation deal will be even better. Riders will be hosted (subsidised accomodation) in the brand new Kempinski 5 Star hotel directly at the race course. Hard to imagine a better place to crown the 2016 World Champions !

The decision to award the 2016 KiteFoil World Championship Titles came after negotiations with the already confirmed and contracted event organizers for the KiteFoil GoldCup. The IKA AGM had earlier this year decided to award the world championship title through an one-off event in the future, subject to contractual negotiations. As contracts for 2016 had already been made under the assumption that the KiteFoil GoldCup would award the World Champion Titles, such agreements had to be respected and cannot be overturned without the approval of the effected parties.

Registration will open shortly for the first event of the 2016 IKA KiteFoil GoldCup in Gizzeria Italy, and the exact dates for the remaining two events will also be confirmed shortly in order to allow all competitors to take part in other important events towards the end of the season, i.e. the Lighthouse 2 Leighton race in Perth, Australia.
