It’s down to the third day of the event in the beautiful beach of Sotavento and the sun was out once again, warming the competition area. The mandatory riders meeting commenced at 12:30 pm with the strong wind showing no signs of dying down as it packed a sustained speed of 25 – 30 knots. There was a large crowd gathered at the beach cheering for their favorite riders.
The sun came out in full force and raised the mercury up to 26° Celsius (78.8° F), literally warming up Playa de Sotavento. True to its reputation, this magnificent location abounds with beautiful beaches, sunny weather and very strong winds packing an average speed of 25 to 35 knots.
Extreme kiteboarding action unfolded as the ladies started the day’s competition at 12:45 pm. Lighter winds, yet still strong, prevailed during the first half of the competition which ranged between 18 to 28 knots but with stronger gusts coming through every so often.
