With summer seabreezes coming to an end, we reflect on another season of fun and adventure! We’re chilling out in the shade at the same camp where the name ‘Reo’ was tossed around a few seasons ago when all that existed was a couple of proto kites and a vision. Ozone Reos continue to impress everyone as a wave kite and the new Catalysts have moved to the top shelf of versatile kites that excel in a variety of conditions and disciplines.
The Reos have become the most respected and talked about wave kites on our local beaches and this has extended to some of the more remote and extreme wave riding locations in Australia where Reos are the predominant kites and people consistently ask with interest about them. They have become the most popular wave kite for very good reasons and in 2013 the new colours and extra reinforcing have raised the bar (pun intended again). I’m not sure that anyone could predict what the next improvements will be. The general response from anyone who rides them is that there is nothing that they could suggest to improve them.
The new Catalysts have been described on the forums as ‘Plug and Play Perfection’ which is a very promising description for a kite that is designed to cater for a wide variety of conditions and disciplines. These kites just feel fun. They’re super comfortable, smooth to ride and willingly perform whether it’s fast turning down the line of a barreling wave, boosting for the latest freestyle maneuver, as a first kite for getting into the sport, racing or just having fun! It’s another huge achievement for the design team and a big win for kiters wanting to mix it up a bit.
It has been a summer for everything over here. From wave kiting to freestyle and stand up paddling to mountain biking. Every day has the potential for fun. I think we are lucky to have discovered options that combine the natural highs of exercised induced endorphins with the natural power from of wind, waves - and the occasional shot of adrenaline as you enter the pit of a monster wave that, although unlikely, could potentially take your last breath!
Good wind and waves to all!
