Ozone News:Ryan Coote - Long Live the warm southerly winds

Written by Ozone on . Posted in Industry News

So as most of Europe knows the weather has been very very slow to warm up. The Russian wind (northerlys) has dominated most of Europe for nearly two months now, bringing with it very cold Siberian winds and very little swell. Because the low pressures have been sitting over Scotland and Norway this brings snow not waves.

So here on the SW coast of Ireland it has been pretty flat or just some surfing conditions. It all changed yesterday, the beautiful warm southerly winds came back and brought a mighty fine swell with them. Happy days!!! HI HO to the water we go.

I packed my REOS and another test Smiler board from AOR kite-surfboards. I traveled a little bit up the coast to a Left hand reef brake that would hold the size and have good clean face.

It was like I won the lottery, I had a 6/8 ft 400m long pealing reef break all to myself for 2 hrs. The wind was 6m 25/35kts on the outside and the wind got lighter and lighter the further down the line you rode. This made for very smooth wave faces.

I love kitesurfing with my Reos in waves. I say it so often. My heart is always in surfing waves and MY FIRST LOVE IS surfing. I understand and appreciate fully what it means to have a Reo in my hands. There are a lot of wave kites on the market right now and I am sure they all work really well, but I can honestly say I really wouldn’t change a thing about my Reos.

They just make everything so simple easy and comfortable. The only other way to score and access the amount of waves that I had in my session yesterday would mean having a noisey expensive Jet Ski to tow you around the ocean but PUMPING a kite and heading for the horizon in silence is much easier, nicer and better for the environment ;)

So go Fly a kite.
