RRD News:Seb Garat PKRA Pingtan report

Written by RRD on . Posted in Industry News

Hello Guys.
It’s been a pretty good comp for me here in China, Pingtan. As I registered for all the disciplines it was a week full of action for me that started with the Freestyle, where I ended up 13th. My goal was to reach the Top 9 Freestyle on this event so I feel a a bit disappointed about this result. Conditions were pretty nice, with waves and around 20 to 25 knots.

Then the action followed with the Big Air competition that I won. The wind was a little bit light though, and I had to ride my light wind weapon, the brand new Obsession MKVI, the Flying Machine. Showing a great polyvalence of high tricks such as No Foot Board Flip, Tail Board Off, Multiple Rotation and High Handle Passes I took the 1st place of this competition.

My new Style Biax 39 is the perfect toy for the Big Air, this board is light and more compact than my usual Freestyle board, and so easy to handle for the No Foot tricks like the board Flip. In this movie, you can see the report from the Big Air, and my signature trick at 0’25” with a Go Pro View :

So I couldn’t be more happy to win this discipline.

Then it was time to throw the slalom races in tough conditions with massive swell coming to the beach of Pingtan ! 4-5 meters waves. On those conditions I was happy to race with my Obsession Pro and my Style with bindings. With this setting, I was able to take a lot of speed, always in control without the possibility to loose the board, and this was a great advantage. I managed to get a 5th place thanks to this choice!

And finally on the last day, was the time for the Twin Tip Race, a discipline that was originally setted up for the chinese competitors. The RRD team leaded the 3 races, with Julien coming 1st and me just behind in 2nd position.

To sum up, my results of the week :
1st in Big Air
2nd in TT Race
5th in Slalom
13th in Freestyle

Now, I’m already in Haikou, on the south of China, getting ready for the next Freestyle PKRA event starting the 2.

Have a good ride, and keep posted!
Seb
