Here are my impressions after my 1st day competing since my shoulder injury :
For the 1st time since I’m on the PKRA tour, I had to do the trials as I was not pre qualified anymore, as you need to be in the Men’s top 8 for that, and I ended 9th in 2012, because I missed the 2 last events.
I had to do 3 heats yesterday morning to qualify myself. And I did it ! When looking at the very high level already in the trial, to qualify myself was already one of my goal.
Then, I didn’t really knew was I would be able to do or not in my heats, as last month I spent in Guadeloupe, I was riding mostly my big kite, 13,5 Obsession Pro and my Style 41 V2 in light wind and I didn’t make all my Handle Pass Tricks…
For the main event, that came straight after the Trials and a lunch break, the wind picked up. And I choose to ride my 10,5 Obsession Pro for my 1st heat of the single elimination against a strong brazilian rider : Carlos Madson. I knew that I had to go big to win such a hard heat, and I have to say that I surprised myself. I didn’t know that I was able to ride like this actually… ! I was almost overpowered on my 10,5 in a consistent 25 knots, that’s the conditions I like the most
I throw my tricks as I used to do before, with a lot of concentration, trying to keep control of everything at any time and my kite as low as possible. I even landed a blind judge 5 at the end of this heat (1st attempt since 5 months !!!). I went out of this heat so Happy to take so much pleasure to ride that good and push my limits, then I knew I won this heat !!!
As the water is a little bit cold here, I was wearing my 3/2 Celsius Pro RRD Wetsuit, and I can say it’s the most comfortable wetsuit I ever tried ! Once you have it, you don’t feel it anymore !
For my 5th and last heat of the day, I was against an other brazilian guy, Reno Romeu, who was going on the water for his 1st heat of the day, as he was pre qualified (8th overall in 2012). This one was pretty hard for me, it was the end of a long day, and I was a bit tired from the previous heat… I did what I could, and lost in a close decision…
I’m pretty happy about this first day back on the compétition, and it’s very promising for the future… I don’t think I’m 100% ready to compete, and I still manage to pass the trials, and land some very powerful and technical tricks. It give me a lot of motivation to prepare myself more than ever, and come back stronger for all the upcoming events !!!
And the most important is that I had so much pleasure to get back all those great vibes again !!!
Keep supporting and pushing me ! I’ll make the show !
Cheers from the desert !
