Flysurfer News:BKSA Essex

Written by Flysurfer on . Posted in Industry News

The 1st round of the UK LandKiting Championship 2013 took place from 11 to 12 May in Essex Kite Park. I love this place because the spot is very big and there are lot of kickers and sliders, which is great to do some unhooked trix.

The Essex guys are super cool and they have all a very high level on land, and also on water. It’s always a good opportunity to go there for training, because those guys push you to the next level, and if you fail your trix you can always hear something like that : «comon boy, man up!»… lol so you bring your big bawls and you rider harder and harder until you land your trix, that’s why i love Essex dudes haha ;-)

This year we had fantastic conditions, a very strong wind about 20 to 30 knots, I did the free sessions and trainings with my Speed4 10m, essentially to train on unhooked, and I did my heats with the Speed3 12m to go high and perform some big spins and boards off. I did my first heat against the local Essex rider «Ash Garwood», he’s one of the best kitelandboarders for sure, he landed some nice dangle passes and other new-school and old-school trix, it was a hard fight and he won. I failed some of my unhooked trix so… well done to him, he was very good.

My next heat was against my UK Flysurfer team mates «Greg Chilton» and «Abe Alzouman», it was a super windy heat with a stron 25 to 30 knots, we all did super mega hangtimes with our Speed3 12m and 15m (for abe because he likes big kites in strong winds haha), I managed to land 100% of my trix in this heat, with big boards off and some crazy indy grab 900, I also did some trix on the kickers to get some more points and go higher in the sky!

I won this heat and got qualified to the main pro final with my FS team mate «Emmanuel Norman» and Ozone team rider «Ash Garwood».

The final heat was a real Warrior Heat! The wind was blowing up to 30 knots, we were riding our Speed3 12m, at the start of the heat we went all super big with massive trix, at this moment you just have to concentrate a LOT because if you fail you can get seriously injured. After 2 minutes riding Emmanuel crashed his kite into mine, we tryed to fix it but the wind was too strong so I had to push the safety and land my kite. We came back to the race director and Ash to ask them to finish the last 5 minutes, they accepted, just time to go back on the spot and get ready, the heat could start again!

The wind became a storm! A little bit of rain came with it, which added some difficulty to grip on the grass, but we all managed to ride our best. Emmanuel did some crazy Back mobes, I did only hooked trix. It was a super battle in strong winds, I love those kind of conditions because the risk is at its maximum, and the trix are huuuuge!!

Results Pro Men Freestyle KiteLandBoarding :

1st Emmanuel Norman (Flysurfer)
2nd Ash Garwood (Ozone)
3rd Laurent Guyot «lolo BSD» (Flysurfer)
4th Greg Chilton (Flysurfer)
5th Abe Alzouman (Flysurfer)

Now it’s time to take a little break because I have some injurys, too much riding night and days in the kite park, yes we did crazy night session on the kicker with a big spot light, it was insane! There are some very cool pictures of this session…

So see at the next round in Suffolk from 8 to 9 June!
This year there are 5 rounds, i’ll be at all of them…see you there!
