Welcome to the International Kiteboarding Association

Our Vision

To grow, evolve and promote the sport of kiteboarding across the globe and across all disciplines.

For more information please also visit our topic specific websites:

Formula Kite

The Formula Kite class is a high performance hydrofoiling class using regulated series registered production equipment freely available.

For Regional Games and a possible inclusion in the Olympic Games, one hydrofoil model and one kite model will be selected for a plain level playing field and to avoid an arms race.

KiteFoil GoldCup

The KiteFoil class is a full development class with minimal equipment limitation, allowing brands to test the latest equipment on the market.

The GoldCup tour is the sports premium event series with events all around the world and a strong focus on media production and prize money level.

Slalom

Slalom on TT:R (TwinTip boards) has been selected as the discipline and equipment for the Youth Olympic Games 2018 in Buenos Aires.

The focus of this high-octane discipline is on equipment handling and technique and includes reaching starts, reaching courses, and obstacels to jump.

Expression

The Expression Disciplines currently include Freestyle, Big Air, Wave Riding, Strapless Freestyle and Park. Competition is judged on difficulty and execution rather than "first past the post".

World Sailing, IKA and GKA have agreed to share the responsibilities for the Expression Disciplines with the Open World Titles awarded through professional tours.

Youth Olympics

Kiteboarding has been included in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games with a boardercross event on IKA TwinTip:Racing equipment, for boys and girls under 18.

Have a look here to learn more about equipment limitations, formats and qualification opportunities.

Olympic and Regional Games

The IKA continues to campaign for an inclusion of kiteboarding in the 2020 Tokyo Games and several Regional Games on One Design Kitefoiling Equipment.

The Formula Kite class is the only afforadable solution for emerging and developing nations to compete in high performance classes and ticks all boxes of the IOC requirements, especially for youth and media appeal.

London, August 18th, 2013: The KB4girls Chapter in Rome invited female kiters as well as those interested in taking up the sport to join their week long Kite Camp in Gizzeria in the South of Italy.

The camp saw a total of 16 girls (5 advanced, 11 beginners) come together for an action packed week. During the no wind hours in the mornings and evenings the participants got to enjoy yoga and stretching, catamaran sailing, water games, capoeira and fun parties and cocktail evenings at the B Club – their host venue. As soon as the wind picked up in the afternoon however the kite clinics were ON!

While KB4girls ambassador Bianca Forzano coach Emanuele Minutello took care of the beginner group, first teaching them kite flying skills with a trainer kite and later with an inflatable on and off the water, KB4girls ambassador Manuela Procopio coached the advanced girls new skills and tricks on the water. The beginners got totally hooked and the advanced riders improved their riding and learned new tricks. A great time was had all around and the week went by way too fast it seemed like.

For the first 3 days of the clinic KB4girls founder and 9x World Champion Kristin Boese joined the group, coaching together with the other instructors, explaining the mission of the KB4girls foundation to the participants and simply enjoying the time with the girls.

Kristin Boese states: “We really appreciate the work of our local ambassadors all around the world and I am always stoked to be able to support and visit them in their events if I can. To be in Gizzeria with the Bianca and Manuela as well as all their participants was awesome and I especially loved that the event was open to beginners – its always so inspiring to experience that first stoke of the girls that are just taking up the sport. I really want to pass on a huge thank you to Bianca and Manuela for the great job they do with running the KB4girls Rome chapter as well as this Camp in Gizzeria. Having girls around the world like them volunteer their time and effort and making it possible for female kiters and beginners to receive this amazing support completely free of charge is very special and important for the KB4girls foundations and its mission to empower females around the world through the sport of kiteboarding.”

A big thanks goes out to KB4girls ambassadors Bianca Forzano, Manuela Procopio, for all their hard work in planning and running the event, Emanuele Minutello for coaching, Francesco Bevilacqua and B Club for hosting the event, the CoolBay KiteAcademy for the beach support, Filippo Costanzo and Best Kiteboarding Italy for supplying demo gear for the participants, Groove for the great event T-shirts, Biancabikinis for its awesome cuts as well as Kimmidoll.
