The KTA Thailand Race Centre at Kitezone in Phuket played host to the first Nils Stolzlechner clinics, the first we hope of several for this season
The riders on the course consisted of both TT and Formula racers and the training was planned to cover both styles of riding in this new era of ISAF recognition.
Day 1 then saw Nils taking the group through equipment choice and tuning, race tactics, rules and reading the conditions for the best race lines.
Day 2 took the group out to the water at Chalong Bay with everyone racing on TT boards with Nils cruising around on his Formula board offering coaching tips and creating racing challenges. The focus began with making a good start and the port or starboard advantages or disadvantages. Training then moved to good mark rounding technique and choosing those all-important lay-lines.
Day 3 moved its focus to personal riding technique and how to improve your speed in all riding directions. Again Nils would be buzzing around the training area to offer individual coaching input to each of the riders and to give them challenges to deal with.
Although the wind did in the end unfortunately drop out earlier than hoped for everyone agreed it had been an awesome course with the ideal mix of background knowledge and hands on technique training.
The next KTA Race Clinic is now planned to take place on Bintan Island in Indonesia for January just before the KTA Asia Tour round.
