Welcome to the International Kiteboarding Association

Our Vision

To grow, evolve and promote the sport of kiteboarding across the globe and across all disciplines.

For more information please also visit our topic specific websites:

Formula Kite

The Formula Kite class is a high performance hydrofoiling class using regulated series registered production equipment freely available.

For Regional Games and a possible inclusion in the Olympic Games, one hydrofoil model and one kite model will be selected for a plain level playing field and to avoid an arms race.

KiteFoil GoldCup

The KiteFoil class is a full development class with minimal equipment limitation, allowing brands to test the latest equipment on the market.

The GoldCup tour is the sports premium event series with events all around the world and a strong focus on media production and prize money level.

Slalom

Slalom on TT:R (TwinTip boards) has been selected as the discipline and equipment for the Youth Olympic Games 2018 in Buenos Aires.

The focus of this high-octane discipline is on equipment handling and technique and includes reaching starts, reaching courses, and obstacels to jump.

Expression

The Expression Disciplines currently include Freestyle, Big Air, Wave Riding, Strapless Freestyle and Park. Competition is judged on difficulty and execution rather than "first past the post".

World Sailing, IKA and GKA have agreed to share the responsibilities for the Expression Disciplines with the Open World Titles awarded through professional tours.

Youth Olympics

Kiteboarding has been included in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games with a boardercross event on IKA TwinTip:Racing equipment, for boys and girls under 18.

Have a look here to learn more about equipment limitations, formats and qualification opportunities.

Olympic and Regional Games

The IKA continues to campaign for an inclusion of kiteboarding in the 2020 Tokyo Games and several Regional Games on One Design Kitefoiling Equipment.

The Formula Kite class is the only afforadable solution for emerging and developing nations to compete in high performance classes and ticks all boxes of the IOC requirements, especially for youth and media appeal.

We are just a few days away from start the start of the 2013 PKRA season in Dakhla, Morocco.  The event will feature freestyle kitesurfing and wave riding at a perfect right hand point break.    The final event of the 2012 season was one of the most exciting the history of the PKRA.  Youri Zoon and Alex Pastor were battling for the world title until the last heat and Karolina Winkowska upset Gisela Pulido and Bruna Kajiya to claim her first world title.  It will be interesting to see how the winter training has paid off for everyone and who will claim this first competition.

We also saw some innovating moves from Alberto Rondina last year with some technical toe side handle passes, will we see other riders choose to explore these maneuvers or have new moves been perfected?  Up and coming riders like Christophe Tack, Eudazio Da Silva, Stefan Spiessberger could also start making waves in the rankings.  This is the event where we see who the top guys and girls are and who are the new contenders for a world title.

\"\"

The 2012 season was marked by all the riders really pushing power kiting with excellent execution for both men and women.  The PKRA format rewards riders for innovation in riding and we are looking forward to seeing some new tricks or variation of tricks in 2013.  The first event is where we will see the latest tricks in kitesurfing and the PKRA will bring them to you Live, in videos and photos every day.

2013 will bring back wave riding on the PKRA and the chance for the riders to claim 10,000$ in prize money and the Dakhla trophy.  The wave is a perfect right hand point break with the wind in a side, side-off direction, making it perfect to execute the latest moves in wave kitesurfing and powered turns.

The new freestyle judging format with more families will give the riders more opportunities to score points with their favorite tricks and keep pushing the level of kitesurfing on the PKRA.  The new software will allow everyone to follow the scores live on the internet and give riders valuable feedback on their performance.

Dakhla is one of the top kitesurfing destinations in the world; with a combination of wind, flat water, waves, amazing desert scenery and a very hospitable culture.  Everyone is looking forward to the couscous and tagines at Dakhla Attitude and great atmosphere.

Go to www.prokitetour.com to see latest news, photos and videos, 2013 is going to be sick!!!
