Welcome to the International Kiteboarding Association

Our Vision

To grow, evolve and promote the sport of kiteboarding across the globe and across all disciplines.

For more information please also visit our topic specific websites:

Formula Kite

The Formula Kite class is a high performance hydrofoiling class using regulated series registered production equipment freely available.

For Regional Games and a possible inclusion in the Olympic Games, one hydrofoil model and one kite model will be selected for a plain level playing field and to avoid an arms race.

KiteFoil GoldCup

The KiteFoil class is a full development class with minimal equipment limitation, allowing brands to test the latest equipment on the market.

The GoldCup tour is the sports premium event series with events all around the world and a strong focus on media production and prize money level.

Slalom

Slalom on TT:R (TwinTip boards) has been selected as the discipline and equipment for the Youth Olympic Games 2018 in Buenos Aires.

The focus of this high-octane discipline is on equipment handling and technique and includes reaching starts, reaching courses, and obstacels to jump.

Expression

The Expression Disciplines currently include Freestyle, Big Air, Wave Riding, Strapless Freestyle and Park. Competition is judged on difficulty and execution rather than "first past the post".

World Sailing, IKA and GKA have agreed to share the responsibilities for the Expression Disciplines with the Open World Titles awarded through professional tours.

Youth Olympics

Kiteboarding has been included in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games with a boardercross event on IKA TwinTip:Racing equipment, for boys and girls born between 2000 and 2003.

Have a look here to learn more about equipment limitations, formats and qualification opportunities.

Olympic and Regional Games

The IKA continues to campaign for an inclusion of kiteboarding in the 2020 Tokyo Games and several Regional Games on One Design Kitefoiling Equipment.

The Formula Kite class is the only afforadable solution for emerging and developing nations to compete in high performance classes and ticks all boxes of the IOC requirements, especially for youth and media appeal.

KTA Race Centre’s are being set-up throughout Asia in partnership with local kite schools, surf centres and watersports resorts to give you the opportunity to learn how to ride race boards, improve your existing skill level and provide you with race board hire. Race Centre’s are the latest development by the KTA to support the growth of kiteboarding in the region.

Each KTA Race Centre will be led by a race trainer who will be able to cover all aspects of race board use, from the basics of set-up and riding through to tacking, gybing and effective downwind riding. The development of race boards in kiteboarding over the past two or three years have added a whole new challenge and dynamic to the sport. For sure this has all come out of the sports drive to be selected for the 2016 Olympics but race boards offer more than just the chance to take up competition racing as can been seen by the brands now developing Freeride race boards to just ride for fun in all conditions as well as turning low wind days into serious sessions and distance riding into a pleasure.

Using a race board is definitely not the same as riding your twin-tip board so a kick start from a KTA race trainer will save you a whole heap of frustration and perhaps even pain.  All KTA Race Centre’s are open brand so are independent and non-sales focused. Depending on the centre you train at you will be able to try out different boards from different companies to see what suits you and you’re riding style.  As some KTA Race Centre’s will be based at kite schools that also operate shops then you might also be able to purchase your own race or Freeride board should you choose to. These shops will by nature be brand specific to the host school/centre, but this falls outside of the KTA Race Centre remit which has no involvement in the sale of equipment.

As well as board hire and coaching KTA Race Centre’s may also be able to offer you support for competitions if you choose to compete through board rental for the event you wish to attend. Terms and conditions for this are at the discretion of each centre.

So check out our KTA Race Centre locations which we hope will continue to grow as the season moves on. If you are also interested in setting up a KTA Race Centre if there is not one current at a location near you then please contact us and we will see what can be done.
