We are really excited to be able to announce that the KTA is about to launch a new training initiative for the coming season - KTA Kite Kids!
We have in the past introduced a few different coaching and training opportunities such as the pre-event pro-rider led clinics for competitors, freestyle and race coaching weekends to improve rider skills, the KTA Race Centre Project for you all to get access to race board training and of course our very successful KB4Girls courses with Kristin Boese to inspire more women to compete. So now this season we think it’s about time we turned our attention and help to the real grassroots of any sport, the kids.
To do this we will be teaming up with one of the KTA’s most successful Champions Kathrin Borgwardt who holds four KTA titles and is the current undefeated women’s KTA Tour Course Racing Champion. Together with Kathrin the KTA intends to put something back into each location and country that the tour visits this season by offering its local kids the opportunity to join a KTA Kite Kids class and take those first steps towards perhaps becoming a future kiteboarding Olympic Champion.
KTA Kite Kids classes will introduce local children to kiteboarding by teaching them the fundamental skills through power kite flying, while at the same time getting them to understand the importance of safety while they are having fun. Having many years of experience and skill as qualified instructor Kathrin will bringing her teaching skill and well as her competition background to the KTA Kite Kids programme, which itself is based on kids camps and courses Kathrin has successfully been running over in Europe.
The KTA Kite Kids classes will be run just before each round of the KTA Asia Tour over two day period and will be supported by local instructors and kiters to ensure lots of help is on hand for the kids to get the max out of their flying session. Our hope and plan then is that the kiting for kids will then continue after the KTA has left with the foundation of a local kids kiting club that can continue to support this grassroots kite skills development right through to getting the kids eventual out onto the water and kiteboarding fully.
