We are very sorry to have to inform you all that as of one day ago the KTA received a formal letter from the BWA (Boracay Watersports Association) that they had voted unanimously and were opposing the KTA use of the Bulabog Bay and would not endorse the KTA competition to take place on the schedule published dates of the 9-13 January 2013.
The key reason for the objection is the concern for the loss of operations to the local schools that may be caused due to having two competition events within the same month at such a peak time in the season, as the Boracay Fun Board Cup also takes place at the end of January.
It is regrettably that this opposition has come to us late in the day, but as the BWA is one of the bodies recognised by the Municipality of Malay as governing the bay the KTA feels that without its support and that of the schools along the Bulabog beach that it would be a very unlikely that the KTA would be allowed to run the event as planned without a great deal of conflict. This is not the purpose or role of the KTA – our aim remains the same to provide opportunities for riders to develop their skills and compete in professional level events throughout Asia and to do this we need the local community on our side.
We have over the past 24 hours been working very hard with our host sponsors Aqua Boracay by Yoo to reach an alternative rather than having to fully cancel the event and we are pleased to be able to inform you that we have reached a solution. It is perhaps not ideal in the context of the tour as a whole but it does enable us to retain the minimum required tour stops to be able to award the Asian Freestyle titles for 2013 and to bring the event to the Philippines and Boracay, which we all love as a kiting destination and love competing at.
We would like to thank our host sponsors Aqua Boracay by Yoo for being able to support the change of dates and being flexible enough to re-schedule their plans for us. The KTA Philippines will now therefore take place from the 26-30 March 2013. This therefore also now makes the KTA Philippines the third round of the KTA Asia Tour for 2013 and as such it becomes the Asian Freestyle Championship finals.
We are pleased to confirm also that the BWA is in full support of this date change and we look forward to working closely with them now to bring about a memorable KTA final.
We deeply regret any problems this situation may cause to any rider but the situation is beyond our control and hope that plans can be adjusted to meet the new event schedule.
All information and details for the KTA Philippines and Asian Championship Tour will be updated over the next hours, so please check in on the information. Due to this change in the schedule we may alter other event dates in the coming days.
