Welcome to the International Kiteboarding Association

Our Vision

To grow, evolve and promote the sport of kiteboarding across the globe and across all disciplines.

For more information please also visit our topic specific websites:

Formula Kite

The Formula Kite class is a high performance hydrofoiling class using regulated series registered production equipment freely available.

For Regional Games and a possible inclusion in the Olympic Games, one hydrofoil model and one kite model will be selected for a plain level playing field and to avoid an arms race.

KiteFoil GoldCup

The KiteFoil class is a full development class with minimal equipment limitation, allowing brands to test the latest equipment on the market.

The GoldCup tour is the sports premium event series with events all around the world and a strong focus on media production and prize money level.

Slalom

Slalom on TT:R (TwinTip boards) has been selected as the discipline and equipment for the Youth Olympic Games 2018 in Buenos Aires.

The focus of this high-octane discipline is on equipment handling and technique and includes reaching starts, reaching courses, and obstacels to jump.

Expression

The Expression Disciplines currently include Freestyle, Big Air, Wave Riding, Strapless Freestyle and Park. Competition is judged on difficulty and execution rather than "first past the post".

World Sailing, IKA and GKA have agreed to share the responsibilities for the Expression Disciplines with the Open World Titles awarded through professional tours.

Youth Olympics

Kiteboarding has been included in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games with a boardercross event on IKA TwinTip:Racing equipment, for boys and girls born between 2000 and 2003.

Have a look here to learn more about equipment limitations, formats and qualification opportunities.

Olympic and Regional Games

The IKA continues to campaign for an inclusion of kiteboarding in the 2020 Tokyo Games and several Regional Games on One Design Kitefoiling Equipment.

The Formula Kite class is the only afforadable solution for emerging and developing nations to compete in high performance classes and ticks all boxes of the IOC requirements, especially for youth and media appeal.

Well some great news before we reach the next round of the Asian Championship Tour; the KTA is very pleased to be able to announce a new media partnership with the online TV company Marine Scene Asia.

Marine Scene Asia is a specialist sailing channel that produces a monthly programme called Go Yachting which covers a wide range of yachting and boating happenings around the region. It also specialises in sail regatta programming and it was at the recent Kings Cup Regatta in Thailand where the KTA and Marine Scene Asia first made contact. So to follow the first of the KTA bringing kiting to a major sailing regatta, it now has the first kiting channel to appear on specialist sailing site.

It is a positive development that reflects the growing interest in kiteboarding as it becomes a potential future Olympic sailing class and both Marine Scene Asia and the KTA felt that this partnership would offer an ideal opportunity for the sailing community to become more familiar with the kiting scene.

The new KTA channel is now live and you can take a visit by following this link –

The new programming kicks off with the first competition round of the season the ‘KTA power by Aqua Boracay’ and will continue to follow the fortunes of the tour and other competitions as we continue through the year.

Co-founder of Marine Scene Asia Duncan Worthington has this to say about the company,

“We are Asia-based and proud of it. Our remit is the marine scene in Asia. This will include not only regattas and boat shows, but also the latest happenings in the Asian industry, destinations, facilities and elements of the marine lifestyle. Competitive sailing is a niche sport in terms of TV coverage and the Internet is allowing sailing to reach a larger audience and events are seeing the benefits of IPTV as a cost-effective way to reach new, targeted markets”

For the KTA and kiting we think this is a great step and one that is hopefully just the start of many more links with sailing and the marine industry at large. A positive start to the year  of the Dragon – the year of the ‘Water Dragon’ as it actually is – which means that it’s a year to launch new projects and boost positive thoughts.  So we can work with that and you can check out the results with our new media partner to see how things develop.
