Welcome to the International Kiteboarding Association

Our Vision

To grow, evolve and promote the sport of kiteboarding across the globe and across all disciplines.

For more information please also visit our topic specific websites:

Formula Kite

The Formula Kite class is a high performance hydrofoiling class using regulated series registered production equipment freely available.

For Regional Games and a possible inclusion in the Olympic Games, one hydrofoil model and one kite model will be selected for a plain level playing field and to avoid an arms race.

KiteFoil GoldCup

The KiteFoil class is a full development class with minimal equipment limitation, allowing brands to test the latest equipment on the market.

The GoldCup tour is the sports premium event series with events all around the world and a strong focus on media production and prize money level.

Slalom

Slalom on TT:R (TwinTip boards) has been selected as the discipline and equipment for the Youth Olympic Games 2018 in Buenos Aires.

The focus of this high-octane discipline is on equipment handling and technique and includes reaching starts, reaching courses, and obstacels to jump.

Expression

The Expression Disciplines currently include Freestyle, Big Air, Wave Riding, Strapless Freestyle and Park. Competition is judged on difficulty and execution rather than "first past the post".

World Sailing, IKA and GKA have agreed to share the responsibilities for the Expression Disciplines with the Open World Titles awarded through professional tours.

Youth Olympics

Kiteboarding has been included in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games with a boardercross event on IKA TwinTip:Racing equipment, for boys and girls born between 2000 and 2003.

Have a look here to learn more about equipment limitations, formats and qualification opportunities.

Olympic and Regional Games

The IKA continues to campaign for an inclusion of kiteboarding in the 2020 Tokyo Games and several Regional Games on One Design Kitefoiling Equipment.

The Formula Kite class is the only afforadable solution for emerging and developing nations to compete in high performance classes and ticks all boxes of the IOC requirements, especially for youth and media appeal.

The finale of the KTA season brings us back once more to China which has in the past years hosted some of the biggest events the KTA has been involved with and this year promises to be even better. Pingtan Island is a new location in China for the KTA and steps forward as the latest of China’s new economic development zones, which in this case due to the island’s location in the Taiwan Straits is being heralded as a gateway for Taiwan into China. Pingtan Island offers not only potentially some of the best winds for KTA, but also large wide sand beaches and stunning coastline. The island itself is a mad mix of old style traditional stone buildings and the construction drive for the future making it a unique insight and experience of the contrasts of China today.

The KTA tour-stop in scheduled from the 16-20 May 2012 and forms not only the China round of the Asia Tour but also the KTA Tour Finals for this season. Last month saw the awarding of the Asian Championship Titles in Thailand, but in May it will be the KTA Tour Titles to decide. So expect plenty of action with so much at stake and so much on offer to win.

KTA Tour Championship Titles are open to any nationality and are the combination of the overall scores from all the rounds of the KTA this season.

The KTA champions to be crowned in China will be –

Freestyle – men and women Course Race RB Class – men and women Course Race TT Class – men and women

The titles are awarded from 1st to 3rd positions. Winners will be awarded trophies and over US$ 10,000 of equipment prizes.

In addition to the overall KTA Tour tiles there will of course also be the event winners of the KTA China round itself. This again is open to all nationalities and is not dependent upon having competed in KTA before

The KTA China event winners will be –

Freestyle – men and women Course Race RB Class – men and women Course Race TT Class – men and women

The winning places will be award for the first time in the KTA from 1st to 5th positions and will share in a split of the US$ 30,000 of cash prize money and of course IKA world ranking points also.

The prize breakdown for each discipline above is as follows:
