John Heineken wins the KiteFoil GoldCup Switzerland

The best Kitefoilers of the world from 15 nations traveled up to the Engadin for the second stop of the Kitefoil Goldcup world tour.

The event took place on beautiful lake Silvaplana, St Moritz, a mecca for skiers in winter and at 1,800 meters above sea level, a stunning crystal clear blue lake that attracts world class sailing and windsurfing events and now kites.

The opening series saw 9 races for the yellow and green group on the Lake Silvaplana. Winner with seven victories is the vice Worldchampion from the US John Heineken. In second place is the actual European Champion and winner of the last years Engadin marathon Olly Bridge from Great Britain. At the 3rd Place finished Nicolas Parlier, France with the same score but less victory races.

The best women is the current European Champion Steph Bridge from Great Britain. The „Bridge Family" is one more time really successful at that Kitefoil Goldcup

Foiling is a huge trend in watersports right now, from surfing to windsurfing to sailing at the big money America's Cup level.

Taking drag resistance to the bare minimum makes for warp speeds, but the long hi tech fins on the kiteboards require incredible skill to control – you're literally flying on a knife edge. It's the fastest way to kite and it's attracting some of the top riders right now.

After rain and no wind yesterday the skies cleared and it started to look promising for some decent competition today. But first the direction had to turn from the south-west to be able to set a course.

Unfortunately the wind didn't switch around, so the race committee had to pull the plug. The previous results stick which makes Jonny Heineken winner of this second stop of the Kite Foil Gold Cup across three continents.

At the closing ceremony, the winners received their trophies with some of them already packed up and good to go to the Kite Course racing worlds in Turkey next week.

The third and final stop of the 2014 KiteFoil GoldCup will be held in Townsville, Australia, end of September.
